New ag business comes to Dodge City

DODGE CITY —

A new assembly plant in Dodge City is hoping to add its little bit of flavor to local agriculture.
    Supreme U.S. Inc., a subsidiary of Canada-based Supreme International, may have opened the doors on its vertical feed processor assembly plant in July. But Thursday, local businessmen and officials got their first official tour of the plant as the company hosted its ceremonial grand opening.

Krista Monical, vice president in Commercial Lending at Landmark National Bank in Dodge City recently completed the 2008 Principles of Commercial Lending School.  The school was held Oct. 20 to 24, in Topeka, Kansas.   The Principles of Commercial Lending School is sponsored by the Kansas and Nebraska Bankers Associations and in partnership with the Colorado, Iowa, Louisiana, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming Bankers Associations.

With Harrah's recently announcing its decision to pull out of the southcentral gaming zone, eyes have turned to Ford County and Butler National's plans for a resort-style casino in Dodge City.

ASHLAND —

The Kansas Association of Insurance Agents held its annual marketing and management conference Oct. 8 -10 in Overland Park. Over 250 insurance industry professionals attended the three-day conference that featured numerous educational sessions on timely insurance topics.
    At the conference, KAIA member Monica Meininger, owner of Snell-Nelson Insurance Agency in Ashland, was awarded the KIA 1752 Club Agent of Merit Award.


Hospital hosts reception for local organizations

Western Plains Medical Complex recently hosted a reception to recognize local care providers as a part of National Home Health Care Month and National Hospice and Palliative Care Month.  The reception took place at 3 p.m. Thursday in the hospital classroom and was open to the public. Kent Smoll, Dodge City mayor, attended and read a statement proclaiming November as National Home Health Care and National Hospice and Palliative Care Month.

Business teachers hold annual convention

The Kansas Business Education Association’s annual two-day convention convened on Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Olive Garvey Business and Technology Building at Friends University in Wichita, Kansas.  Local business teachers in attendance included Kris Ball, associate professor of business at Dodge City Community College.

Stanion Wholesale Electric Company just completed it's eighth annual Charity Golf Classic for Special Olympics.  This year's event was held at Falcon Lakes Golf Club in Basehor, Kan.  Otto Buche, executive vice president of Stanion is tournament chairman.
