Dodge City High School football coach Justin Burke has resigned his position after district officials for Dodge City Public School had an internal investigation of a possible Kansas State High School Activities Association rule violation.
Burke, who is also a physical education instructor, as well as a track and field coach at DCHS, said USD 443 accepted his resignation Monday night during the executive session.
The possible rule violation occurred during a physical education class in which Burke was teaching.
CIMARRON — Colby Hamel of Lakin High School’s boys ‘basketball team pounded his way in the paint to 25 points and turned numerous missed shots into scoring opportunities through offensive rebounds.
It proved to be the difference in a 64-49 victory over host Cimarron Friday night.

SCOTT CITY — In a non-conference wrestling dual Thursday night, Scott City High School squeezed out a 30-29 win over Dodge City.
WICHITA — Guard Valerie Ortiz converted two free throws inside the game’s final minute, lifting the Dodge City High School girls’ basketball team past Wichita Sunrise 48-46 Friday night.
Wichita Sunrise, a private school, missed a pair of shots inside the 3-point arc in the final seconds, enabling the Red Demons to improve their record to 11-3 on the season.
WICHITA — Rico Hogan had a trio of second-half 3-point hits — one in the fourth quarter — leading Dodge City High School past Wichita Sunrise, 44-40, Friday night in non-conference basketball action.
Two Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference women’s basketball teams headed in opposite directions met Wednesday night at the Dodge City Civic Center.
And, after the dust settled, No. 18 Hutchinson Community College ran away with a 91-57 victory over the Lady Conquistadors.
After starting strong and getting a trio of dunks early on, it appeared that it might be Dodge City Community College’s night to pull an upset of eighth-ranked Hutchinson.
However, a jam session didn’t ensue.
Emily Scheck, a student-athlete at Dodge City High School, is expected to fill a void at setter for the Pratt Community College volleyball team as she signed a letter of intent on Wednesday.
Scheck said she had spent most of her six-year volleyball career playing middle blocker, but got more playtime at setter the last two years.
