DODGE CITY —

    Solutions instead of excuses.
That's how citizens in five southwest Kansas communities characterize their efforts to raise money for breast cancer research. A relatively straightforward fundraising event has grown into a movement that's gained attention from national media and health leaders across the country.
The communities of Wilmore, Englewood, Protection, Ashland and Coldwater have formed the WEPAC Alliance, and their first big event is called Hoops for Hope.
Scheduled to begin with a pep rally immediately following the Ashland/Coldwater football game on Oct. 29, the weekend continues with a Hoops for Hope practice session from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 30, followed by a tailgate party at 5 p.m. and the Hoops for Hope game at 8 p.m.
