The Dodge City Chapter of NSDAR met on June 14, Flag Day, at the KS DAR Library in Dodge City at 1:30 p.m. There were 12 members present. Norma Jane Daniels led the opening ritual and flag salute and read the president general's message.
Announcements were made of the death of two members, Phyllis Soliday and Eileen Leonard. Cemetery markers were set.
Armed Forces Day at Fort Dodge was attended by Jacqualine Dunham and Coy Snyder.
Patty Owens reported on the trip in May to the state conference at Topeka, which she and Jacqualine Dunham attended. They brought back several awards.
Regent Norma Jane Daniels received a certificate for outstanding regent of the southwest district.
Outstanding achievement awards were given for Americanism, Constitution Week; Schools Teacher/s Award; Carol Evans, genealogical preservation; Veterans Committee; Chapter Articles; Literacy Promotion; JAC contest, Jacqualine Dunham; membership promotion and support of state JAC committee, Catherine Johnson; #2 for most new members; descendants project, Carol Evans; lineage research, Norma Jane Daniels; and American Indians.
The recording secretary read the minutes for March and April. Sherilyn Merica gave the treasurer’s report.
The JAC reported that Kansas had the largest number of entries to advance to national in the Junior American Citizens Contest: a total of 44 entries. Dodge City had 39. Eighteen first-place entries received $20, 14 second-place entries received $15 and seven third-place entries received $10. A total of $640 was distributed to area students. Students from preschool through 12th grade entered the contest on the theme, "America's Everyday Heroes.”
Rowena White pieced a quilt block named "At Home on the Plains" for the KSDAR quilt project.
Dolores Robb DeHart received a unanimous vote to join as an associate member. Her parents were Calvin Robb and Ruby Padget.
Anna Lew Johnson installed the new officers for 2008-2010.
Mary Ervin reported on the state Regents’ project of restoring the roadside DAR markers in Kansas. Ford County had six markers which need to be restored.
The next meeting in September will be announced.
