Meeting scheduled in Garden City to discuss KPERS

    The Kansas Coalition of Public Retirees KPERS Awareness Team will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Clifford Hope Auditorium in Garden City to discuss retirement issues.
    KPERS is a defined-benefit plan, to which the state is legally responsible to provide specified funds, according to a press release from Chuck O. Stones, chairman of the local awareness team. The current concerns arise "because the state has not contributed actuarially required levels for the past 15 years."
