The local chapter of Soroptimist is offering two opportunities to local women: the Women's Opportunity Award and the Violet Richardson Award.
The Women's Opportunity Award is a $1,000 cash award for a woman who is head of household and enrolled in school. The award can be used to offset expenses such as childcare, gas, or utilities.
The Violet Richardson Award is for a girl age 14 to 17 who volunteers for her school, church or a community organization. The award provides $200 for the girl and $200 for the organization where she volunteers.
"We've had difficulty in the past getting women to apply for these awards," said Teresa Koehn, chair of the Women's Opportunity Award committee. "The application form is not lengthy, and we really encourage women and girls to take advantage of this opportunity."
