The Western Plains Regional Hospital of Dodge City, Inc., recently reviewed scholarship applicants and recommended scholarships be awarded to eleven students for a total of $13,200.  The general membership of the Auxiliary voted unanimously to approve the recommendation of the 11 scholarship recipients at their July 7, 2008 meeting.
    Dr. John Virtiska, gynecologist, was the guest speaker for the meeting, giving information about his training and professional services.
    The Western Plains Regional Hospital Auxiliary of Dodge City, Inc., welcomes new members throughout the year to assist in volunteer activities at the hospital.  Volunteers offer assistance in the surgical, intensive care, hearth care waiting rooms, and deliver mail, books and magazines to patients. They also work in the gift shop at the hospital.  If you would like to offer your services in one of those opportunities please contact Miriam Winfrey, Membership Coordinator 225-3827.
    Each year the Auxiliary awards scholarships to students who have been accepted in an accredited health care program of study and meet the scholarship committee guidelines.  The purpose of the scholarship program is to stimulate interest in health care and encourage health care graduates to return to practice their profession in the Western Kansas Area and hopefully in Dodge City.

    Each year scholarship application forms are made available through the Western Plains Medial Complex Human Resources Office and the Dodge City Community College Nursing program.
    Applicants are required to submit all completed forms by June 15 of each year to be considered for the following year.  The scholarships are funded through the Auxiliary’s proceeds from membership dues, the gift shop, donations and vending machine sales.
