The Dodge City High School Red Demon junior varsity tennis team took second in an invitational tournament in Pratt Saturday on the strength of the team's doubles pairings. Ashland won the seven-team tournament.

    No. 1 doubles partners Katy Salmans and Courtney McDaniel took first place and went 4-1 in their matches. Jamie Groth and Morgan Schaller went 5-0 on the day and also placed first.

    Lauren Groth placed fourth in No. 1 singles play by going 1-3 in her matches, and Jessica Hertel went 2-3 in her matches for a fifth-place finish. The tournament was the final competition the junior varsity team will face this season.
    One of the team members will play with the varsity to the Oct. 6 Western Athletic Conference tournament in Garden City. An inter-squad play-in tournament will determine who goes.
