Dodge City High School junior Peter Neidhart won Saturday's Stanton County cross country meet by running the 5k in 17minutes, 36 seconds. Demon freshman runner Fred Ruiz placed first in the junior varsity meet as well, finishing in 18:56.

    The varsity team placed second in the meet as a team, behind only Holcomb. Scott City, Ulysses and Hugoton High also sent teams to the meet.

    Senior Joe Butcher placed tenth by running the course in 18:45, while junior Eduardo Acosta placed 13th with his time of 18:51. Both the boys and the girls varsity teams will be in Stillwater, Okla. Saturday to compete in the Cowboy Jamboree. 
    The DCHS girls' team won the Stanton County meet as a team ahead of Hugoton and Ulysses. Junior Maria Schmidt placed second overall and ran the 4k in 16:34.
    Junior Yael Felix placed fourth with a time of 17:22, and senior Mariah Hostetler came in sixth in 17:52.
    Junior Valerie Ortiz came in just after Hostetler in seventh place, while senior Abby Pflughoeft placed eighth with her finish time of 17:56.
    Claudia Baca placed tenth by running the course in 18:41. Girls junior varsity runners ran in the varsity meet.
    The boys' JV team placed runners in the top five finishes Saturday. Ruiz placed first, junior Ryan Hayes placed second, freshman Zach Rostetter placed third and senior Ivan George came in fourth.
    Senior Matt Carlson took fifth in the JV meet to help his team beat Holcomb and Hugoton, the only other teams to bring a junior varsity team.
