Dodge City Chapter NSDAR

    The Dodge City Chapter, NSDAR met Saturday, December 13, 2008 in the Manor of the Plains community room.  12 members attended.  Norma Daniels, Regent presided.  Special reports were made by Sharilyn Merica, Treasurer, Catherine Johnson, Registrar, and Amy Winger, American Indians Chairperson, reported on Native American Indians Heritage month in November.

    The Dodge City Chapter, NSDAR met Saturday, December 13, 2008 in the Manor of the Plains community room.  12 members attended.  Norma Daniels, Regent presided.  Special reports were made by Sharilyn Merica, Treasurer, Catherine Johnson, Registrar, and Amy Winger, American Indians Chairperson, reported on Native American Indians Heritage month in November.
    The NSDAR National Defense report recognized that December 15th is the 217th Anniversary of the Bill of Rights Day.
     Jacqualine Dunham, chapter chairperson for the Junior American Citizens contest, reported the 2009 theme, “America the Land of Opportunity.”  The contest is for students from kindergarten to twelfth grade.  Entry deadline is January 9, 2009.
    Jacqualine Dunham presented a program on the DAR Insignia.  She distributed information on proper wearing of the Insignia Pins.  Catherine Johnson presented a video program on our President Generals project, Restorations of the NSDAR Building in Washington DC.
    The Plains Elementary School and DAR members donated a large amount of items including money to buy additional gifts for Christmas at the Veterans Kansas Soldiers Home in Fort Dodge.  DAR Service for Veterans chairperson, Jacqualine Dunham, reported.
    Patty Owens, chapter chairperson of the School American History Essay contest announced the Essay topic, “How are the ideals of the Gettysburg Address in 1863 relevant to our country today?”  Entry deadline is January 9, 2009.
The next meeting will be January 10, 2009 at the KGS/KSDAR library, Village Square Mall, Dodge City at 1:30.

Dodge City Lions Club
    The Dodge City Lions Club met on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at noon at Casey's Cowtown for its regular meeting.  The featured speaker was Lion Jeff Thorpe.  He talked about Butler National's latest plans for the new casino they are building in the western part of Dodge City.

    The Dodge City Lions Club met on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008 at noon at Casey's Cowtown.  The featured speaker was Lion Mike Bell, Zone Chairperson.  He talked about  numerous service opportunities the club could take part in over the next few months.
    The annual pancake feed will be held at the National Guard Armory Jan. 22, 23, 24, 2009.
    There will be no meetings on Dec. 24 and 31.  The next meeting will be on Jan. 7, 2009 at noon at Casey's Cowtown.
