At tonight's meeting, the Dodge City Commission will consider a series of amendments to the city's budget for fiscal year 2008.
The commission will consider amending the budget for the "Why Not Dodge" sales tax fund to reflect $3.22 million in expenditures for 2008, according to a memo from city clerk Nannette Pogue. The Dodge City and Ford County Commissions had not yet approved the budget for the sales tax fund when the city's regular budget was approved in August.
    Other proposed amendments include:
    • The Convention and Visitors Fund: The fund will be amended to reflect an additional $19,000 in expenses than were originally budgeted, due to a hospitality program funded by payments in lieu of taxes from the Best Western and LaQuinta motels. Those payments, as well as some hospitality program expenses, were funneled through the Convention and Visitors Fund.
    • Special streets and highways: Pogue said that the amended amount, $890,100, reflected the actual amount spent on street programs in 2008. The amount was higher than originally budgeted because more cash was available.
    • Wastewater fund: The original budget contemplated approximately $5.09 milliion in expenditures, but that has risen to $5.9 million to reflect capital expenditures related to buying property for the new wastewater reclamation plant. Those costs were not part of the original budget, which was approved in August. Pogue said that all of the amended funds have cash available to cover the increased expenditures, and none of them are financed by property tax revenues.
In other business, the commission will consider a resolution updating the city's boundaries.
The resolution is necessary because some minor errors need to be corrected, according to a memo from engineering services director Joe Finley. He noted that the city did not annex any additional land in 2008.
