A 54-year-old Dodge City man was charged Monday with sexually assaulting a 22-year-old female relative.
The man's bond was set at $200,000 cash or surety during his first court appearance, and his next hearing was tentatively set for 1 p.m. Aug. 5, Deputy Ford County Attorney David Belling said Tuesday. Defense attorney Steven Cott was appointed to represent the man.
The victim contacted police Sunday night to report that the man had sexually assaulted her several hours earlier, said Dodge City Police Chief John Ball. Police arrested the suspect without incident early Monday morning, and he was booked into the Ford County Detention Center.
Ball declined to comment on what may have happened, given the circumstances of the case.
The Globe does not publish the names of sexual-assault victims or provide information that might identify them. For that reason, the newspaper is not publishing the suspect's name either.
