The wife of one of Dodge City's legendary lawmen is about to have her story told in a new biography.
Dr. Ann Kirschner was in Dodge City over the weekend to study important manuscripts pertaining to the life of Wyatt Earp as she prepares to write the first biography of Earp's third wife, Josephine.
Josephine Earp was never a resident of Dodge City, but she visited briefly after Wyatt's death in 1937.
Although records are unclear, it is widely presumed that Josephine was born in New York in 1861, the child of Jewish immigrants from Prussia. She became an actress and professional dancer, touring with the Paulina Markham troupe. In December 1879, the troupe arrived in Arizona and Josephine began a stormy relationship with Johnny Behan, a local lawman.
