  • When left-hander Ty Thomas threw a no-hitter on Tuesday during a 1-0 win over Wichita Heights at Demon Field, he became the 10th pitcher in Dodge City High School baseball history to do so.
According to Brian Lenz, who is compiling sports statistics and history at DCHS, Thomas is the first Red Demons pitcher to hurl a gem since Todd Griffin and Paul Gonzales each achieved the feat during the 1977 season.
The first no-hitter in school history came in 1932, when Russell Sealey threw one.
In 98 pitches, Thomas threw a complete game. He has allowed only two hits over the last 14 innings.
Thomas had two walks, and the Demons committed two errors during his no-hitter.
Thomas, who improved to 5-1, also tied former Demons pitcher Ruben Kirbs for career victories at DCHS with 16.
Dodge, 12-6 overall, lost to Class 6A top-ranked Maize 12-1 on Tuesday.

Notes — DCHS needs to win both of its games Friday to end the regular season to secure the No. 3 seed in the upcoming 6A regional baseball tournament. The Demons play host to Hutchinson and Great Bend, Friday at Demon Field. DCHS plays Hutch at 1 p.m., with the Hutch-Great Bend games and DCHS-Great Bend games thereafter. ... Demons senior Steven Mills rolled his right ankle Tuesday during the win over Heights. After a trip to the hospital, he returned to the dugout with a boot on his foot.
