Dodge City's annual Relay for Life will begin with an overnight relay from 5:30 p.m. June 11 to 7 a.m. June 12. The relay celebrates those who have battled cancer, remembers lost loved ones and empowers all to fight back against the disease.
The relay includes patients, medical support staff, corporations, civic organizations, faith-based groups and community volunteers joining together to fight cancer and raise funds for the American Cancer Society.
The first lap is for cancer survivors. As the teams continue the relay through the night, participants make new friends and spend time with old ones in celebration, a barbecue, games and, of course, the walk.
The event includes a "Fight Back" ceremony, featuring a community leader who will challenge participants to take personal action for better health: stop smoking, eat healthier or exercise regularly.
