LaVona “Jean” Gereaux Mallory Piper, 79, died Monday, May 24, 2010, at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City.


        LaVona “Jean” Gereaux Mallory Piper, 79, died Monday, May 24, 2010, at Western Plains Medical Complex, Dodge City.
    She was born August 12, 1930, at Garden City to Ed and Georgia Bates Gereaux. Her mother moved her to Dodge City when she was six months old, where she was raised by Harry and Georgia Mallory.
    She was a lifelong resident of Dodge City and graduated from Dodge City High School in 1948.  She married Sanford Piper on August 15, 1948. They lived 61 years together at 600 Ave. P all their married life.
    She was a life member of the Women of the Moose 1187. She had been through all of the requirements and was a College of Regents and a Star Recorder at the time of her passing.
    She worked at several jobs before she started working for USD 443 Food Service. She worked as Lunchroom Supervisor at Miller School for eight years, then moved to Sunnyside School as Production Manager for nineteen years before her retirement in 1995.
    She is survived by her husband; 3 children, Linda Burkhart and her companion, Mike Rees, and Randy Piper, all of Dodge City, and Kathryn Friesen and husband, Aaron of Windsor, Colorado; 2 Grandchildren, Heather Schnoebelen and Nicholas Friesen; 1 Great-Granddaughter, Sloane Schnoebelen.
    She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tauloma Georgian; her mother, Georgia; both fathers, Ed and Harry.
    The Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 27, 2010, at St. Cornelius Episcopal Church, Dodge City, with Fr. Dennis Zimmerman presiding. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Burial will be in Greencrest Memorial Gardens, Dodge City.
    In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to St. Cornelius Episcopal Church in care of Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas, 67801.
