Raindrop by raindrop, HorseThief Reservoir is filling up quickly.
Due to recent rains, the reservoir's lake currently has nearly 220 surface acres of water and will contain about 450 surface acres when full, park manager Josh Hobbs told the Globe on Tuesday. He added that the lake is about 60 percent full and should be full within the next couple of years.
"With these good rains, we'll be full a lot faster — several years in advance," he said.
He said Pawnee Watershed District officials originally predicted that the lake would fill up within four to five years, given the area's average annual rainfall. But now, they expect the lake may be full within two or three years based on current rainfall.
