J.R. Claeys has spent much of his career advocating for small businesses and working with nonprofit organizations.


    J.R. Claeys has spent much of his career advocating for small businesses and working with nonprofit organizations.
    The Salina native's career has included a stint as the director of communications for the National Small Business Association, which serves more than 150,000 companies across the United States. He has also served as the communications director for the Small Business Exporters Association and the Small Business Technology Coalition, and as president and CEO of the National Association of Government Contractors.
    Claeys currently helps nonprofit organizations with their fundraising efforts.
    Now, he is hoping to take that experience, combined with his work as an international elections observer, into the Kansas secretary of state's office.
