More than one hundred women attended this year’s fifth annual “El Dia de La Mujer Hispana.” The event was held Oct. 2 at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City. Latina Outreach and Leadership sponsored the afternoon, which celebrated cancer survivors and provided education on other health-related topics.
The programs were presented in Spanish and focused on health awareness, education and support for Hispanic women.
Speakers at the event included psychiatrist Edgar Vizcaino, speaking on depression; Hugo Rodela, RN, speaking on women’s heart health;Melinda Andazola, Dodge City Women’s Clinic, on health screenings, nutrition and weight management; and Maria Ferreiro about the upcoming school bond issue.
This year, as in the past, the Circle of Hope donated financial assistance to help offset the costs of the educational programming. Other area businesses provided sponsorships and door prizes.
