A Lawrence man has been found not guilty of attempted murder in the shooting of another man at a crowded party late last year.

Jurors in Douglas County District Court deliberated just a few hours Wednesday before acquitting 26-year-old Dustin Walker of attempted second-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Walker had been accused of shooting and wounding a 23-year-old man at the party Dec. 5 at Lawrence apartment complex.

Defense attorney John Kerns told the Lawrence Journal-World that prosecutors had little physical evidence and problems with the credibility of several witnesses.

Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson says he believed there was enough evidence to put Walker on trial. But Branson also said the prosecution was hurt by the lack of cooperation from witnesses to the shooting.
