     In the last week and a half, Dodge City Red Demon Soccer has gone 3 – 0 in three very important Western Athletic Conference matches.
       Last Tuesday, at Memorial Stadium the Demons hosted the Liberal Redskins and came out the victors 2 – 0. The first goal was scored by Cristian Verduzco on a header off of a corner kick taken by Armando Hipolito. The second and final goal was on a breakaway pass given by Ricky Paz to Oscar Carmona.
      Then last Thursday, the Demons again hosted a match at Memorial Stadium versus the Hays Indians. The Demons were able to score three times in the match with Rene Yeverino getting the hat trick. He was assisted on the goals by Rene Rodriguez, Armando Hipolito and Ricky Paz. Hays was able to score a goal in the final half to make the final score 3 – 1.
     Last night, Dodge City traveled to the home of the Garden City Buffaloes to determine who would remain on top of the conference.
     After 80 minutes of play, the Demons came away with a 5 – 0 victory.
     For the first 25 minutes it was a pretty evenly matched contest. Then the Demons exploded for 4 goals in the final 15 minutes. Rene Yeverino got the scoring started on a ball played a head by a Demon defender that deflected off of the Garden City Defender and then Rene found the back of the net.
     Similarly, the second goal came after a misplay by the Garden defender and Oscar Ramirez got around the defender and finished for the goal. Then, with just 43 seconds left on the clock, Oscar got pass the defense and the goalie for an easy finish. Then, with 12 seconds left, Dodge City was awarded a free kick on the 30-yard line after a foul and defender Eduardo Peralta struck the ball and had it deflect off the Buffalo defender into the side netting.
     Dodge’s final goal came midway into the second half off of a corner kick taken by Armando Hipolito and finished by Cristian Verduzco. As Dodge’s reward, they left Garden City with the lone lead in the Western Athletic Conference.
     Next action is Thursday, September 22 at Great Bend another WAC foe. JV will kick off at 4 and Varsity will follow approximately at 5:45.
