The Dodge City High School cross country teams traveled to Ulysses to compete in a meet on Monday the 19th.


     The Dodge City High School cross country teams traveled to Ulysses to compete in a meet on Monday the 19th.
     The girls placed first in the meet followed by Garden City. The team had a majority of their varsity runners at this meet which helped the team claim the 1st place spot.
     Coach Brian Lenz said, “It was good for the girls to get the win here. The three freshmen that ran varsity (Melitza Ramirez, Perla Neave, and Johana Villalba) are really stepping up to help our team.”
The top runner for Dodge was Erica Ramos placing 3rd, followed by a 5th place finish for Lucero Botello, Melitza Ramirez finished 13th, in 16th place was Perla Neave, followed by Johana Villalba in 21st and Nallely Rios finished 32nd. The team competes at Stanton Count on Saturday and then the varsity will travel to Oklahoma to run in the OSU Jamboree on Oct. 1.
     On the boys side seven of the JV team stepped up and ran Varsity. They placed 4th in the meet. The varsity runners were led by Eric Snyder in 12th with a time of 19:35, Matt Pflughoeft placed 19th running a time of 19:55, Cesar Andrade was 20th with a time of 19:59. Rounding out Varsity was Alonso Acevedo, Zach Rostetter, Brendan Dewell and Caleb Keeten.
    Boys' Coach Buc Bolmer said, “It was nice to see the JV kids run competitive in a varsity race, especially after just competing on Thursday.”
     The varsity will be at the Rim Rock Invitational on Saturday and the JV team’s next action will be with the Varsity team at the Newton Invitational on Oct. 1.
