A Wichita nursing home is under investigation after a 67-year-old resident was discovered with open sores and maggots on his feet.

The Wichita Eagle (http://bit.ly/okhTxA) reports the man, a resident of Deseret HealthCare and Rehabilitation center, was taken to Via Christi Hospital on Tuesday night for treatment of chest pains.

A police spokesman says doctors called police after finding open sores and maggots on resident's feet. Lt. Doug Nolte says the man told police he was being mistreated at the home.

Nursing home administrator Melisa Lang says federal privacy laws prevent the company from discussing specific patients.

She says the allegations are being taken seriously.

Inspectors in April cited the home for 25 violations, well above the statewide average of 11 and the national average of eight.
