On Saturday, the Red Demon boys cross county squad competed at the Rim Rock Invitational in Lawrence, Kan.
The boys turned in a solid effort without top runner Oscar Carmona, finishing 7th in a field of 31 teams. Despite not having their best member, the rest of the Red Demons stepped up, with five finishing in the top 80.
Dodge City was led by Luis Carmona, who completed the 5K course in a time of 16:40 and finished 5th. He was followed by Anthony Carmona (17:34-44th), Jonathan Rendon (17:55-71st), Layne Moe (17:57-77th), and Elder Colindres (17:58-78th).
Coach Buc Bolmer said the course provided a solide challenge for his squad.
“I like the team getting exposure to this course. It is a tough course against tough competition from five area states and the team had to overcome adversity to finish as well as they did,” he said.
The Lady Demons. meanwhile, hit the road and captured the crown at the Stanton County Invitational. The girls led the way with 25 points, 23 better than 2nd place Ulysses.
All seven of the varsity runners finished inside the top 20 providing a balanced effort from top to bottom.

"It was good to pick up a second win this season. Next week we go to the Oklahoma State Jamboree, the competition will be much tougher there and we will be able to better gauge how good we are,” he said.
As mentioned, the Lady Demons head to Stillwater on Oct. 1, while the boys travel to Newton.
