On Friday night, Memorial Stadium was lit up with bright lights and even brighter smiles as the 16 homecoming court nominees anxiously awaited the results for Homecoming King and Queen.


     On Friday night, Memorial Stadium was lit up with bright lights and even brighter smiles as the 16 homecoming court nominees anxiously awaited the results for Homecoming King and Queen.
     Before walking out to the main field, the pairs lined up, waiting to be called out to the field. The announcer read a brief summary of organizations each nominee belonged to, what group had nominated them and what their post-graduation goals were.
     After each of the nominees had been named, the pairs moved to the center of the field, surrounded by the Dodge City High School drill team.
     The moment was filled with much anticipation, then finally, the 2011 fall homecoming king and queen were announced: Vanessa De La Cruz, nominated by Girls Cross Country won for Queen and Vicente Estrella, nominated by Volleyball, won for King.
     "I was really excited," De La Cruz said about hearing her name called for Queen. "I was speechless," Estrella said about how he felt that he had won for King.  
     Both were greeted off the field by family and friends who showered them with hugs and congratuations.
