Eleanor Ruth Huffines Cox, 82, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City after a short illness.


     Eleanor Ruth Huffines Cox, 82, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City after a short illness.
     She was born Feb. 6, 1929, at El Paso, Texas, to Andrew Jackson and Elsie May (Winzer) Huffines. Her parents died when she was very young, and she moved to Ensign in 1935 to live with her maternal aunt and uncle, Elba I. and Emma May Latta.  On April 29, 1951, she married Forrest J. Cox at Dodge City. He survives.
     She was a homemaker and telephone operator at Southwestern Bell Telephone. She was also a curbhop at the Toot-N-Tellum Drive In during the time the family owned the business.
     Besides her husband, Forrest, she is survived by her children, daughter Janet L. Thomas and husband, Gary; two sons, Robert S, (Bob) and wife, Mitzi Cox, and Randall J. (Randy) Cox, daughter Lisa G. Burton and husband, Rob, all of Dodge City, and daughter Diane P. Roberts and husband, Morgan, of Plainview, Texas; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents and great-grandchildren, Alyssa Dawn Thomas-Lopez and Canden Brave Butler.Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City, with Mr. Phil Scott presiding. Burial will follow at  Maple Grove West Cemetery in Dodge City.
