The Dodge City Community College Lady Conquistador soccer team fell 3-2 Wednesday night to a visiting Barton County squad.
Despite a fantastic effort from freshman forward Lety Ibarra, who struck both goals for the Conqs, the team fell behind early and had to play catch-up for too long.
The game started off well for the Cougars from Barton as Kaylee Kershner floated a ball over Dodge goalkeeper Kristin Cook's outstretched fingers and underneath the crossbar.
Barton would continue to dominate much of the first half, out possessing the Conqs and getting more scoring opportunities.
Another Cougar goal put Dodge into a deep 2-0 hole that would require alot of digging to turn it into a close ballgame.
The Lady Conqs struck lightning in the second half as Ibarra drove deep into Cougar territory and snuck a shot past the inside reach of Barton goalkeeper, Taylor Petzner, and into the back of the net.
However, Barton would suck the wind from Dodge's sail as Monica McCarthy netted her only goal of the game off a well-struck ball from just inside the penalty box, pushing the lead back up to two goals.
Ibarra would not be outdone as she worked around a defender down the middle of the field and found herself one-on-one with Petzner — a battle Ibarra once again would conquer.
But that is as close as the Lady Conqs would get, missing a couple key opportunities as the time wound down.
The loss drops DC3 to 3-6 this season.
Next up will be another home game as the Conqs battle Northeastern Oklahoma A&M at 12 p.m.
