With an opportunity to knock off a national number one team, the Dodge City Community College men's soccer team was ready and relaxed as warm-ups started.
The mood was much different 45 minutes into the game.
Playing under the lights at Memorial Stadium, the Conquistadors came out swinging against the No. 1 Barton County Cougars. Multiple offside calls and a couple of missed shots would be all the Conqs could muster against their opponent.
Those missed chances would come back to haunt Dodge as the Cougars netted an early goal just 19 minutes in to give them the edge.
The squads would trade back and forth possession until Barton pushed their lead to 2-0 after a corner cross found its way to a Cougar foot and past Conq goalkeeper Rigo Sandoval.
As if things weren't going bad enough for DC3, a crossing pass by Barton was inadvertently cleared by a Conq defender into their own net.
The score at halftime was 3-0, Barton. The final score was not available at press time, but visit www.dodgeglobe.com for more information regarding tonight's matchup.
