The Dodge City Red Demons JV Football Team traveled to Liberal on Monday looking to add another win to their season.
The Demons were able to put the first score up on the board with a touchdown by Austin Savage and continued to control the 1st quarter to close it 6-0.
     But they didn’t stop there.
In the first 10 seconds of the 2nd quarter, Andrew Balderaz was able to score a touchdown, bringing the score to 12-0. As the Redskins tried to make a comeback the Demons were able to stop them once again with an interception by Austin Savage at the Indians 20-yard line and ran it all the way back for another touchdown, with Edward Rivera topping it off with a two-point conversion.
With the ball back in the hands of the Redskins, momentum was on the Red
Demon’s side as Nicholas Reardon intercepted the ball on the Demon’s one-yard line and was able to run it back to the 45-yard line. However, the Redskins answered immediately with an interception of their own. It didn’t last long as the Redskins fumbled the ball on the Demons 17-yard line and it was recovered by Austin Ridenour.
Dodge City would go into the half leading 20-0.
The Redskins struck first in the second half, intercepting a Red Demon pass and returning it for a score to put points on the board.
The Demons tried again to regain control, but with a fumble turning it back over to the Redskins, it set up Liberal for their second score of the afternoon.
A safety on the next possession turned a blowout into a six point contest, 20-14.
The Demons began to regain strength as they started on their own two-yard line. Austin Savage exploded for a 98-yard touchdown and Kolten Schulte topped it with a two-point conversion, pushing the lead to 28-14.
Ryan Lomas put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter, putting the ball in the endzone for six and completing the two-point play.
The Red Demons capture their second win of the season with a 44-30 victory over Liberal.
”The boys put up a hard fight," JV Coach Steve Rankin said. "They lost focus in the second half and let Liberal in, but stepped up and finished the game off.”
The Demons will finish the rest of their season with all home games for the next four Mondays.
