Thelma Jean Bitner, 79, of Johnson died Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson.


     Thelma Jean Bitner, 79, of Johnson died Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson.
     She was born Sept. 15, 1932, in Manter to Cortland Sr. and Thelma (Roark) Wartman.
     Thelma had been a Stanton County resident all her life. While growing up, she helped work on the family farm and in the family grocery store, W&R Grocery. Thelma was also a beautician, cooked at the Stanton County Senior Center and managed apartments.
     Survivors include two daughters, Linda Wartman and Michelle Reinert, both of Johnson; one brother, Cortland Wartman Jr. of Johnson; three sisters, Luella Carrithers of Derby, Carolyn Hartley of Garden City and Cathy Farmer of Ulysses; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
     Thelma was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Don L.
     A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, with the Rev. Dave Kaufmann officiating.
     There will be no public calling hours.
