     Preston S. Hale, 90, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, at Halstead Health and Rehabilitation.
     He was born Oct. 11, 1920, in Hesston to Abe and Flora Bell (Lee) Hale. On July 5, 1941, he married Marie E. Ransford in Newton. She survives.
     Preston served in the United States Army during World War II and after he got out, he went to work for Santa Fe Railroad as a carman for 35 years.
     Other survivors include a son, Leonard S. (Jacqueline) Hale of Halstead; a daughter, Connie R. (John) Rhodes of Newton; three grandsons; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Opal Swift of Seattle, Wash.
     He was preceded in death by two brothers, Greg Hale and Carthal William Hale; and three sisters, Effie Sawyer, Iva McCann and Mable Akers.
     Cremation has occurred. There will be a memorial service at 3 p.m. Saturday at Halstead Health and Rehabilitation, with burial at a later date at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery at Fort Dodge.
