A Pratt man accused of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old child tried to get his bond reduced Thursday but was unsuccessful.
Walter A. Lopez has a burglary conviction on his record but no other crimes, defense attorney Louis Podrebarac said during a brief hearing. Podrebarac added that his client was determined to fight the charges against him.
But Assistant Ford County Attorney Jacob Fishman opposed lowering the bond on the grounds that Lopez was charged with a serious crime.
Magistrate Judge Keith Whitney denied Lopez's request, leaving the bond at $100,000.
Lopez also sought to have Podrebarac removed from the case, saying he didn't think Podrebarac would do a good job. But Whitney denied the request to replace Podrebarac with a new attorney.
A contested preliminary hearing will be scheduled later.
Lopez was recently charged with rape and aggravated indecent liberties with a child, stemming from an alleged incident that supposedly occurred between Feb. 1 and April 1, according to Ford County District Court records.
