I am writing you to "expound" on the outstanding concert I attended Sunday afternoon, April 29, at the Windthorst church, presented by the Community College.
Every concert I attend I think, "This is tops, can't be beat!" And then they do!!
Their directors had chosen some fine musical literature. The High School Madrigals were a great choice and sang a number from Haydn. Beautiful.
The only shock I had was the opening notes from the Dodge City Symphony. They sounded like a full complement of at least 100 instruments. Of course the acoustics at Windthorst helped the 29 members. They do a fantastic job. Directed by Ginger Zingara.
The directors are all great, but the college directors, Jodi Frisbie Reese is absolutely top-notch and the college must hang on to her.
Dr. Joel Thomas, accompanist, is just that — he accompanies. He doesn't try to drown out the singers, but he melds in with them. A perfect addition. I heard his recital and he can shine as a soloist. But with this group he blends in so beautifully you hardly are aware he is playing. A talent!
The college must be applauded for having such wonderful people handling the music department, and for them to put together such a varied group that worked well — the High School Madrigals, the Choral Union, College Singers and the Symphony.
It was a beautiful concert and very well attended.
