  • Area track athletes invade Wichita for 1A meet

  • The 1A State track and field meet took place this past weekend at Cessna Stadium at Wichita State University and several schools from southwest Kansas  strapped up their track shoes with a chance to make their mark.

  • The 1A State track and field meet took place this past weekend at Cessna Stadium at Wichita State University and several schools from southwest Kansas  strapped up their track shoes with a chance to make their mark.
         On Friday, after  preliminary races finished in the afternoon, Jayda Minor of Minneola found her way onto the medal stand with a 7th place finish in the 3200-meter run for the girls, while Woodrow Patrick of Minneola captured 11th and Christian Schuler of Hodgeman County took home 15th in the boys event.
         In Friday's field events, Austin Mounts of South Central finished 14th in the long jump and 11th in the triple jump, Rebecca Borger of Hodgeman County and Krista Walker of Minneola placed 11th and 13th in the girls javelin, Dusty Watkins excelled for a 5th-place finish in the girls discus, Samantha Harrington of Minneola and Gentry Stout of Bucklin took home 6th and 13th in the girls pole vault, Charlotte Davis of Bucklin came in 15th in the girls shot put, and Katelynn Slattery of Spearville finished 3rd in the girls high jump.
         Saturday morning field events concluded with Elizabeth Stein and Taylin Doussa of Spearville finishing 2nd and 3rd in the girls triple jump. Also, Lamontae Heady of Ingalls and Logan Durler of Spearville captured 9th and 13th in the boys high jump, Jerrod Lies of Minneola took home 9th in the boys pole vault, Giles Fox of Ashland placed 3rd in the boys shot put and boys discus, and Morgan Hood of Bucklin came in 11th in the girls long jump.
         In Saturday's track events, Abbi Price of Bucklin finished 5th in the 100-meter hurdles, Elizabeth Stein of Spearville captured 6th in the girls 100-meter dash and 4th in the 200-meter, Wyatt Slaven of South Gray took home 6th in the boys 100-meter dash and 4th in the 400-meter, Crystal Bradshaw of Hodgeman County and Abby Gales of South Central placed 3rd and 6th in the girls 400-meter dash, Sammy Kreutzer of Bucklin finished 7th in the girls 300-meter hurdles, and Janae Price of Bucklin came in 7th in the 800-meter run.
         Several area relay squads had very successful meets, as Bucklin, Hodgeman County, and South Central finished 3rd thru 5th in the girls 4-by-800, Fowler placed 6th in the boys 4-by-800 and 5th in the boys 4-by-400, Spearville took home 4th in the girls 4-by-100, South Central came in 4th in the boys 4-by-100, and Bucklin placed 6th in the girls 4-by-400.
         Overall on the girls side, Spearville wound up in 5th overall, with Bucklin (9th), Hodgeman County (T24th), South Central (32nd), South Gray (T38th), Minneola (T38th), and Ashland (T46th) rounding out the standings.
         As for the boys, Ashland led the way with a 16th-place finish, while South Gray (T25th), Fowler (T27th), and South Central (T30th) completed the list.
