Leading Ladies, the final show for the Depot Theater's 2011-2012 season is getting ready to open in just two weeks.
"We open on June 15," said Gayla Kirmer, the show's director. "And we'll run for three weekends."
Shows on Friday and Saturdays will start at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6:45. Sunday shows will be at 2 p.m. with doors opening at 1:45. Tickets for the show will cost $25.
"We will have a cash bar and snacks at each show," said Kirmer, "because the show is at the Homestead Theater there will not be a formal dinner."
About the play
Leading Ladies is a play set in 1958 about two young Shakespearian actors, who are not very good. They quote the wrong plays, and mix up lines, and in general are just not talented. So, when they read an article about an old woman who is looking for her long lost nephews, Max and Steve, they decide to pose as the nephews to con the old woman out of the money she wants to give her family. It turns out though that Max and Steve are actually nieces, their names are short for Maxine and Stephanie. The actors still try to convince the woman that they are her long lost family.
"It's really a hilarious play," said Kirmer, "every night at rehearsal I find myself cracking up at something new."
Kirmer says that even though the play is something the whole family could enjoy there are a few suggestive parts.
"We have some cross dressing, of course, some lines that are a little suggestive and some colorful language, but it's a pretty family-friendly play," said Kirmer.
Kirmer says that her cast is working hard and doing a great job. It's a very young cast, but they are very talented, according to Kirmer.
Cast members include; Jonas Herrera as Leo and Maxine, Cale Morroe as Jake and Stephanie, Katelyn Royle as Mag, Hillary Pingsterhaus as Audry, Johnny Dunlap II as the minister, Cary Droste as Doc Myers, Kolton Cox as Butch and Anne Gaffrey as Florence.
"There will be tons of laughs and the whole show will be lighthearted entertainment,"said Kirmer.
