  •      Now that summer is finally here the Depot Theater is getting ready for their summer youth sessions.     Registration for the two summer sessions will begin on June 15, a $40 registration fee is required for each session, which covers the expenses of the production. Children who are interested in getting involved in theater are encouraged to sign up. There is no limit to the number of participants.
"We will find things for everyone to do who signs up," said Connie Penick, the manager of the Depot Theater. "In the past we have added parts because we had more kids sign up than roles available. I will never turn someone away who is interested in this program."
On July 10 the first session, called "Where are we, who are we" will begin. The session will run for five weeks with rehearsals on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. and will conclude with performances on Aug. 10, 11 and 12. The session is open to children who are entering grades 4 through 9 next year.
"We will be doing a performance called 'Persephone' by Ford Ainsworth," said Penick. "A play based on Greek mythology."
During the session kids will learn about the Greek gods, as well as how to put on a performance.
The second session, "Kids Spotlight," will begin with open auditions on Aug. 14 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. with the performance on Sept. 8
"I want kids to come out and show us their best talents," said Penick, "whether that be singing, dancing, playing piano or anything else."
Kids Spotlight will be a way to showcase individual talents, as well as to learn some important aspects of being on a stage.
"We will teach the kids stage presence, about eye contact, body language and more," said Penick, "then we will intermingle their talents and what they have learned into a show."
"We are really trying to expand our youth theater program," said Penick, "and  I want to stress that Destination: Center Stage is for everyone, no matter how much theater experience they have."
