  • The Ford County Fair is July 20-23 and promises something for everyone in the family to enjoy.
    "We have events and activities for everyone in the family," said Ethel Schneweis, Ford County Family and Consumer Science Extension Agent. 
    The special attraction for 2012 is the Headrick’s Petting Zoo.  People of all ages may participate, plus Headrick’s will be offering camel rides throughout the fair.  McDonald's is helping the Ford County Fair Association bring the zoo to the County Fair.
    New this year is the Sheltered Reality Drum Corps.  They will perform on Sunday, July 22 at 10 a.m. at the fair church service and again 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.  The drum corps performance is sponsored by Fischer Chiropractic Clinic.
    The Jared Daniels Band will perform again this year on Saturday evening, July 21.  This  Dance/Concert is sponsored by ITC Great Plains and will start at 9 p.m. at the Ford County Fairgrounds.  Community members are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and spend the evening enjoying the music.?The Alley will be sponsoring a Teen Dance on Sunday evening, July 22 at 9 p.m. at the Fairgrounds.
    For those who enjoy eating, there are several food events scheduled.  New this year is a “Welcome to the Fair” Hot Dog Feed on Friday, July 20 at 6:30 p.m. sponsored by Family Care Clinic of Dodge City. 
    A free watermelon feed will be offered during the Water's True Value "Afternoon at the Fair" starting at 2 p.m. and continuing until 4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 21.  The afternoon will include activities like an inflatable bounce machine, "High Striker," and a dunk tank for children to enjoy before, during and after eating watermelon.
    If ice cream is more inviting, attendees can take part in the free "Ice Cream Social" on Sunday, July 22 at 3 p.m. sponsored by the local Ford County Farm Bureau Association.  Fair patrons may choose from three varieties -- strawberry, chocolate or vanilla ice cream cups.
    Concessions will be available throughout the Fair and is being provided by Pat Keckler and the First Christian Church.  The concession stand is located inside the exhibit building on the fair grounds and will be open whenever the exhibit building is open.
    A Sunday morning breakfast sponsored by Western State Bank will be served starting at 9 a.m. Enjoy cool refreshing drinks and delicious food while viewing all the 4-H/FFA and Open Class exhibits.
    Those who are interested in sampling some of the homemade foods submitted by local cooks for judging at the Fair may attend the "Fair Foods Sale," Friday evening, July 20, at 6 p.m.  Hungry bidders can purchase the main portion of the food items available after a small sample is taken for judging and display.  The sale will feature breads, cookies, cakes and more.
    Page 2 of 2 - Finally, on Monday evening, July 23 at 6:00 p.m. the "Buyer Appreciation Meal"  sponsored by Cargill, Farm Credit of Southwest Kansas, Bad Habit Sports Bar & Grill, Ford County Fair Association, Blazin’guns BBQ, Pepsi and Cummings Carousel. The meal is for any business or individual who has provided financial support for our livestock and food sale.  The crowning of the 4-H King and Queen for 2012, the Ford County Giveaway drawing and he 4-H/FFA Food and Livestock Premium Auction will be held following the meal.
