Jan Stevens, executive Director of the Dodge City Convention and Visitor's Bureau was informed on Friday that Dodge City was designated as the place to visit in Kansas.
"We've always known that we were a great tourist attraction for our region, but this listing really highlights our status as a destination for everyone in the country."
The travel section of msn.com listed different family travel destinations for each state. Dodge City was the location for the state of Kansas.
Stevens said she was contacted "several months ago" by representatives at the State tourism department and asked to submit an entry.
"We basically pitch our community and tell them about the great things available in Dodge." Stevens said.
Under the headline of "51 mini family vacations" the website stated the following:
"Dodge City offers a peek at 19th century Western life. Step back into the 1870s at the Boot Hill Museum, which reconstructs the old West. Then face off with Buffalo Bill, Davey Crockett, Billy the Kid, and other famous names from the West at the Gunfighters Wax Museum."
