  •  Lifetime Dodge City resident Danny Cox suffered some major health problems over the past few months. Cox's thyroid when into a 'thyroid storm,' which is a condition that develops in some cases of hyperthyroidism.  He also developed heart issues and spent a total of 104 days in the hospital. ?He's home now and getting stronger every day, according to family friend Amy Johnson. But, the medical bills are starting to pile up. ?"Danny has an amazing spirit," said Johnson. "Every day he's getting a little bit better and a little bit stronger."?Johnson decided to hold a benefit for Cox as a way to help him with some of his medical expenses. ?"He is the most amazing person," said Johnson. "He has such a big heart. He would do anything for anyone. So I wanted to do something nice to help him out."?The benefit will be held on Aug. 26 from 1-6 p.m. at The Broken Spoke, 1510 W. Spruce. It is free to attend with just a free-will donation asked. The event will be family friendly. ?National beef, Midwest Salvage and Broken Spoke are sponsoring a hamburger feed. A live auction will take place starting around 4 p.m., some of the items already donated include gift certificates to local restaurants, Kirby Meat, Harley Davidson. A ladder from Sherwin-Williams (Cox paints houses and buildings in the area), and a clock from Gibson's.
