The United Way of Dodge City will kick off their 2012-2013 fundraising campaign today in conjunction with the Dodge City Red Demon Football Watermelon Scrimmage.
"The purpose of the kick off is to thank the community for the support they have provided and will provide," United Way Executive Director Gayle Ausmus said. "And it's a fun way to help the Demons kick-off their season."
The campaign kick-off will serve free hot dogs and hamburgers from 5:45 to 7 p.m at Memorial Stadium. This is the seventh year for United Way to kick off their fundraising season with the football season.
"This is such a fun event. We had about 300 the first year and almost 600 last year," Ausmus said.
Last year, United Way's local campaign raised more than $300,000. The contributions have been invested in the community through 18 community partner agencies and a newly funded after school program.
"To meet the growing community need," Ausmus said. "We hope to exceed last year's campaign totals."
