The National Screening Bureau is coming to Dodge City on Oct. 4 to present "Roadmap to a Successful Hire" a seminar that walks employers through the hiring process from the initial search for candidates to the post hire process. The seminar will take place from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Dodge House Convention Center. Tickets cost $90, but their is a discount for Society for Human Resource Management, SHRM, members.
"Any company that hires will get valuable information out of this seminar," said Troy Trussell, director of marketing for NATSB. "But specifically anyone in the human resource profession will benefit from this."
Topics that will be covered in the seminar include:
• EEOC guidelines- The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) recently issued new guidelines on background screenings, these will be discussed in detail during the seminar.
• Background checks with report analysis- Participants will learn the different ways an identity can be verified and the correct ID documentation to look for. The different types of criminal searches including national, county and federal will also be discussed, as well as how to understand and read the information provided in these searches.
• Electronic I-9, E-Verify and Identity documentation- The origin and purpose of an I-9 document, as well as the E-Verify process will be explained in detail.
• Social medial searches- The risks of searching social media without a third party vender will be discussed, as well as how viewing sites can expose the employer to protected class information. They will also discuss the options employers have in using a third party for social media searches.
•Drug-free workplace programs- Instruction will be given on the five components of a successful DFW program; policy, employee education, supervisor training, drug testing and employee assistance program. An update on drug abuse on the Midwest will also be given, as well as the known hazards of drug abuse from the workplace.
Todd Sutcliffe, the founder and president of NATSB, Trussell, and Dan Oblinger, the lead instructor at NATSB will divide the topics between them and share their unique expertise on the seminar topics. Sutcliffe has served as president of both the Mid-America Credit Association and the Kansas Association of Credit Bureaus. Currently, he is a member of the National Association of Professional Background Screeners. Trussell is an expert on drug-free workplace programs, and is a certified professional collector, a breath alcohol technician and has created online drug-free seminars as well. Oblinger is an expert in drug culture and the signs and symptoms of drug impairment through his experience as a patrol officer, field supervisor, drugged driving enforcement officer, undercover detective and hostage negotiator.
"This seminar is going to cover all kinds of important information," said Trussell, "anyone who is in HR or involved in the hiring process for their company does not want to miss out."
Trussell also noted that the seminar is pre-approved for HR professionals to receive 4.00 recertification hours with the HRCI.
