  • 'Real people - real stories' is the theme for the 2012 Travel Industry Association of Kansas (TIAK) annual conference.  Dodge City will be hosting the event which will begin Monday, October 15.

"This is a moving conference," said Jan Stevens, director of the Dodge City Convention and Visitor's Bureau. "They move the conference around the state and we are excited to have it here again so soon."

The last time the group's conference was held in Dodge City was six years ago.  Stevens said she feels that the Magouirk Conference Center facilities and the United Wireless Arena both played a part in getting the group back to the area.

"Having the casino here has played a major role, too," Stevens said.

The conference expects 250 participants in town and area attractions and speakers are getting ready.  Monday, October 15 Boot Hill and the Santa Fe Depot have both issued vouchers for conference registrants to come for tours.  The first meeting in Dodge will take place at Boot Hill Museum's Occident.  Welcome sessions and the exhibitors booths will be at the Magouirk Conference Center with some special offerings at the United Wireless Arena Monday evening.  On Tuesday, October 16 a panel of local speakers - Jeff Thorpe, Joann Knight and Jeff Hiers -- will present information about "Dodge City's Commitment to Tourism." Tuesday Night, Boot Hill Casino and resort will host an evening for the participants. The conference meetings on Wednesday, October 17 will be followed up with a dinner and auction at the Western State
Bank Expo Center.  The theme for the evening will be 'Experience the Wild West!'  Local singer Katie West will be performing during dinner and the DCCC rodeo team will be sharing their talents and presenting a few educational and entertaining segments for the conference
    attendees.

Local attendance is encouraged.  Registration is available for single days as well as for the full conference at http://tiak.org
