John W. "Bill" Miller, 90, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 at Ottawa County Health Center in Minneapolis. He was born on April 10, 1922 at Ensign, the son of Morton and Hattie (Obee) Miller.
Miller was a longtime farmer in Gray County just North of Montezuma. He married Delores Grace Wendel on Dec. 27, 1945 at Ingalls. While he was turned down by military service, because of a leg injury during his childhood, Miller drove a truck from Borger, Texas to the air base in Liberal during the war hauling aviation fuel.
An accident in early 2002 left him unable to remain at the farm he loved and moved to Delphos to live with his son David and wife Ann. He later moved to the Nicol Home in Glasco where he resided until his death.
He was a member of the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church of Ingalls and was a member of the Knights Of Columbus, and was in charge of their annual soup supper to raise funds for the parish. He also helped with the area 4H clubs.
He is survived by his daughters Martha Waller and husband Al of Branson, Mo. and Judy Miles and husband Stan of Princeton, Ind.; his sons David Miller and wife Ann of Delphos, and Wendell Miller and wife Patricia of Smithville, Mo.; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren; a sister Juanita Oliver of Painesville, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews.
Miller was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Delores; his second wife Floella; a daughter Ida Marie; two brothers, Ross and Hugh; two sisters, Bertha Stevens and Anna Rose Jantz; and a grandson Chris Waller.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2012 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Montezuma. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Home, Dodge City on Thursday, October 11, 2012 from Noon to 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Stanislaus Church, 200 N.
