William “Bill” T. Volz, 87, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012 at his home in Dodge City.
He was born July 25, 1925 in St. Paul, Kansas the son of Herman and Louise Sack Volz. A Dodge City resident since June of 1948, moving from St. Paul, he was a carpenter for Prairie Builders in Dodge City for 32 years and later worked in building maintenance at First National Bank, Dodge City, retiring in 1996.
He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady Of Guadalupe, 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 2955 and the American Legion all in Dodge City.
He served in the United States Army during WWII.
On November 8, 1952 he married Betty Tanner in St. Mary, Kan. She survives.
Other survivors include: his son, Tim and wife Jackie, Dodge City; his daughter, Tama Hanson and husband Lynn, Pawnee Rock; a brother, Francis Volz, Parsons, Kan.; four grandchildren, Kylie Hanson, Brooks Hanson, Dustin Volz and Brandon Volz; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Martin.
Vigil service followed by Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012 both at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City, with Fr. Ted A. Skalsky presiding. Friends may call from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Greencrest Memorial Gardens, Dodge City.
