Virgel Junior George, 85, died October 10, 2012 at Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita. He was born on November 11, 1926 in Ingalls, the son of Luke and Susie (Ochs) George.
Virgel grew up in Ingalls and graduated from Ingalls High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He married Carlene Hutchison on August 8, 1954 in Rest, Kansas. She preceded him in death on September 28, 2007. Virgel worked for the Gray County road department for 31 years and was a former high school basketball and football referee. After his retirement, he enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities, gardening, and playing cards at the Gray County Over 50 Center.
He was a member of the Cimarron First Christian Church.
Virgel is survived by one son, Tim George and wife Teresa of Larned; three daughters, Terri Wells of Ingalls, Tammy Richardson and husband Kurt of Cimarron, and Tina Ewing and husband Shawn of Ponca City, Oklahoma; two sisters, Shirley Davis and Betty Hoskinson both of Cimarron; six grandchildren; and one great grandson In addition to his wife, Mr. George is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Frances Rothgeb; and an infant brother.
Funeral service will be held at the Cimarron First Christian Church on Monday, October 15, 2012 at 10:30 AM with Mr. David Johnson presiding. Burial will follow at Cimarron Cemetery with military rites by Howard Gotschall Post #1714 V.F.W. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel in Cimarron on Sunday, October 14, 2012 from noon to 6:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Gray County Over 50 Center, Cimarron First Christian Church, or the WW II Honor Flight in care of the funeral home.
