Oscar Carmona finishes eighth in individual standings

The Dodge City High School boys cross country team braved the near-freezing conditions Saturday morning and finished fourth in the Class 6A boys state cross country meet at Rim Rock Farms.
The Western Athletic Conference and Wichita East regional champion Red Demons scored 118 points as a team with Oscar Carmona leading the way with an eighth place finish in the individual standings with a time of 16:09. Luis Carmona was the second DCHS runner across at 16:22, followed by Layne Moe (32nd, 16:50), Elder Colindres (40th, 17:01), Edward Rivera (59th, 17:18), Jonathan Rendon (93rd, 17:26) and Eric Snyder (102nd, 18:33).
Shawnee Mission Northwest won the meet with 43 points, followed by Wichita North (92) and Shawnee Mission West (101). Olathe North placed fifth with 133 points, followed by Manhattan (136), Shawnee Mission North (169), Derby (183), Olathe East (200), Lawrence Free State (240), Wichita South (245) and Maize (265).
Blue Valley's Colton Donahue won the boys individual title in a time of (15:22), followed by Sam Guinn of Blue Valley Northwest (15:41).
The Lady Demons had two runners in the 6A girls cross country race: Jasmine Duarte placed 69th in a time of 16:49, while Lucero Botello finished 100th in a time of 17:50.
WAC champions Garden City finished second in the team standings with 100 points, 11 points more than state champion Olathe East. Shawnee Mission West finished third at 113. Alex Miller finished second in the individual standings in a time of 15:10.
Liberal finished fifth in the Class 5A boys team standings, while Great Bend placed seventh behind state champion Bishop Carroll. Great Bend was the only WAC team representative in the girls cross country meet, finishing 10th.
Cimarron finished 10th in the Class 3A girls team standings with 225. Douglass won the team title with 76 points, followed by Norton (94) and Salina Sacred Heart (121).
Isabelle Koopman led the Lady Bluejays with an 11th place finish (16:19) in the individual standings. Other runners for Cimarron include Kari Blattner (21st, 16:52), Josian Smith (79th, 18:47), Karina Zamora (89th, 19:51), Jaqui Arreola (96th, 21:30) and Cortney Toothaker (98th, 22:40).
Jordan Puvogel of Hiawatha won the individual state title in a time of 15:30.
The Minneola girls team finished sixth in the team standings in the Class 1A state meet at Wamego Country Club with 76 points. Jayda Minor led the Wildcats with a 12th place finish (16:48), followed by Maria Gonzalez (29th, 17:43), Miranda Giessel (39th, 18:12) and Sarah Wilczek (58th, 20:27).
Greeley County won the state title with 37 points, followed by Axtell (59) and Olpe (60). Audrey Schmitz of Axtell won the individual title in a time of 15:49.
Other area runners include Laurin Wagner of Kinsley (35th, 18:02) and Fowler's Alexandria Granados (57th, 20:11).
Christian Schuler of Hodgeman County finished 18th (17:44) in the Class 2A boys individual meet, while Lelan DeLissa of Meade placed 30th (18:09). Michaeal Golliher of Meade was the only area runner to compete in the 2A girls race, finishing 60th at 18:15.
Fowler's Efrain Estrada was the leading area runner in the Class 1A boys race, finishing 15th (18:10), while fellow Goldbug Tate Shumard (18:44) placed 25th and Ingalls' Zachary Batman (19:50).
