  • In keeping with a decade-long tradition, Al's Humble Flowers will be holding its annual Donation Drive this weekend. Those wishing to make a donation will receive six free Rio Roses for any five food pantry items donated or per $5 donation.
The drive will benefit the Salvation Army of Dodge City.
Sharon Wilson, owner of Al's Humble Flowers, said all of the food and monetary donations gathered through the drive will stay local. In past years, donations and proceeds have been given to the Crisis Center of Dodge City, Manna House, and United Methodist Mexican American Ministries.
Wilson said the drive has always been well-received in the community.
“We get a great response,” she said. “People are so generous. I think they would come in and donate even if we weren't giving them something in exchange.”
But, since conditions in Dodge tend to get a little dreary in the winter season, the roses have proven to be a welcome barter for a helpful donation.
Donations can be dropped off at Al's Humble Flowers from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10. Al's Humble Flowers is located at 2600 Central in Dodge City.
