Edwin Denton Jacques, Jr., 91, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012 at Meade District Hospital in Meade.
He was born on the family farm on June 16, 1921 near Ensign, the son of Edwin Denton and Maude (Butcher) Jacques, Sr.
Jacques graduated from Montezuma High School in 1938. On April 16, 1939, he married Bessie "Opal" Latta in Meade. She preceded him in death on March 24, 1997.
Jacques was a decorated World War II veteran, serving in the army. After retiring from farming, Edwin worked at Unruh Foster in Montezuma as a mechanic. He loved to travel with his last trip being to Washington D.C. on the Kansas Honor Flight in July of 2012.
Jacques is survived by a son, Edwin Denton (Kim) Jacques, III and wife Debra of Sublette; a granddaughter, Shannon Moore and husband Doug of Montezuma; three grandsons, Scott Glassco and wife Natalie of Montezuma, Jeff Jacques and wife Nicole of Marion, Iowa; and Jon Jacques and wife Amie of Chickasha, Okla.; a brother, Bill Jacques and wife Althea of Minneola; a sister Donna Faye Harden and husband Bob of Minneola; a sister-in-law, Shirley Jacques of Salina; seven great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter.
In addition to his wife, Jacques is preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Francis and J.B. Glassco; one brother, Robert Jacques; and one sister, Doris Henderson.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2012 at Montezuma United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Montezuma. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012 at Swaim Funeral Chapel of Montezuma. Memorials are suggested to World War II Honor Flight in care of the funeral home.
