Louise M. Hornung, 96, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012 at Presbyterian Manor of the Plains, Dodge City.
She was born Feb. 1, 1916 in Spearville, the daughter of Henry and Anna Klenke Knoeber. A lifetime area resident, she worked as a Harvey Girl, a bank teller at First National Bank, both in Dodge City, and also worked at the Spearville Mercantile. She loved quilting, traveling, playing cards and family and enjoyed making homemade cinnamon rolls.
She was a member of St. John The Baptist Catholic Church, Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella and served on the First National Bank Board of Directors all in Spearville.
On Nov. 8, 1937 she married Chester Hornung at Spearville. He preceded her in death on October 22, 1959.
Survivors include a son, Carl Hornung and wife Pat, Frisco, Texas; four daughters, Annette Stein and husband Leland, Spearville, Lois Gleason and husband Gene, Dodge City, Linda Meserve, Fairway, and Mary Herron and husband Jim, Upland, Calif.; and many greatly loved grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Lawrence; a brother, Bernard Knoeber; and two grandsons, Christian Gleason and Adam Hornung.
Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2012 and vigil service at 7 p.m. Friday both at St. John Catholic Church, Spearville. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with Fr. Ted D. Stoecklein presiding. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Spearville.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the St. John Cemetery, EWTN (Eternal Word Television Network) or the Manna House all in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
