  • The Stauth Museum is getting ready for its third annual Twilight Holiday Happening and staff are asking the community for help.
Each year the museum asks clubs, civic organizations, groups, businesses, individuals, artists or anyone else who is interested to create a wreath to be auctioned off that night.
"Anyone can make a wreath," Kim Legleiter executive director of the museum said. "And even though it's a holiday event, the wreaths don't necessarily have to have a holiday theme."
Legleiter said she has received wreaths that are for fall, Christmas, spring, and even ones that could be used all year round.
All donated wreaths will be auctioned off during a silent auction the night of the event.
"There's no cost to sign up to make a wreath," Legleiter said, "we just ask that when you drop it off you fill out a form with the information about who made the wreath and how much it cost to make, so buyers have an idea of what to bid."
The Stauth Museum is hoping to receive at least 15 wreaths to auction off this year, but would gladly accept many more.
"We hope to raise about $300 to $400 with this fundraiser," Legleiter said.
All funds raised from the auction will help with the costs of educational programs for children and adults. Legleiter said she tries to have at least one program for children and adults for each exhibit the museum has during the year.
Winners at the auction will get to take their wreaths home that night, so they can be used for the upcoming holiday season.
Other events taking place that night include holiday refreshments, door prizes and a centerpiece raffle.
"We're asking guests to bring five nonperishable food items or a new or gently used toy that will be donated to the Gray County Food Bank," Legleiter said. "For every five food items, or toy you bring, you will be entered in a drawing for one of five beautiful centerpieces."
Twilight Holiday Happening will take place from 7 to *:30 p.m. Nov. 26 at the Stauth Museum, located at 111 North Aztec Street, Montezuma. Legleiter asks that, if possible, wreaths are brought in by Sunday, Nov. 25, so bid sheets can be made, but they will continue to accept wreaths on Monday as well.
